Edmund Aldrich de Leon

Chief Technology Officer

Summary

Four-time CTO with 18+ years of building engineering organizations and technology platforms for high-growth companies, with deep regulatory expertise in fintech and medtech. I partner with CEOs and boards to turn technology strategy into measurable business outcomes: profitability, teams that scale, and legacy systems made modern. I bring a builder's mindset to organizational design, set clear ownership, and build cultures of accountability that move teams from reactive firefighting to predictable, high-quality delivery. I'm a hands-on user of frontier AI dev tooling, including Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, and MCP servers.

Experience

Rebtel

June 2026 – Present

CTO · Stockholm, Sweden

Leading technology at a global diaspora services company that connects millions of people across borders, and steering the platform and engineering organization through a strategic pivot from declining voice revenue to profitable growth in mobile top-ups and new cross-border services.

  • Restructured product and engineering into cross-functional feature teams, giving each team end-to-end ownership of a product area. This cut hand-offs, shortened lead times from idea to production, and created clearer accountability for business outcomes.
  • Folded the separate QA and Operations departments into engineering under a “you build it, you run it” model, so quality and reliability became part of how every team works rather than separate stages.
  • Tripled engineering output while raising quality.
  • Defined and rolled out the company’s AI strategy across engineering, which shortened development cycles and improved code quality.
  • Leading the ongoing modernization of a 20-year-old technology estate, moving critical systems off legacy platforms onto a modern architecture.

Anyfin

Feb 2024 – Mar 2026

CTO · Stockholm, Sweden

Led the technology organization of a European consumer finance company through its transformation into a fully licensed EU digital bank, overseeing architects, engineers, and data scientists across product, platform, and data domains.

  • Defined and executed the company-wide technology strategy that enabled profitability (July 2025) and sustainable scaling, including the first deposits product in Germany and its Swedish rollout in Q1 2026.
  • Modernized legacy systems and infrastructure, cutting infrastructure and IT costs by 30% through architectural streamlining, software improvements, and vendor consolidation.
  • Steered technology operations through EU banking license approval (July 2025) — including EBA, DORA, PCI-DSS, and GDPR compliance — delivering high-availability, audit-ready production systems.
  • Drove company-wide AI enablement, embedding AI tooling (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, MCP servers) into engineering workflows to speed up delivery and reduce operational overhead.
  • Launched two new business lines: Insurance (2024) and a Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) platform scheduled for commercial rollout in 2028, expanding revenue and technology capabilities.
  • Owned the full technology budget, with P&L accountability, workforce planning, and engineering cost efficiency across the organization.

BrightBid (STO: BRIGHT)

Nov 2021 – Jan 2024

CTO · Stockholm, Sweden

Co-founded BrightBid and, as chief architect from the first line of code, built its product, engineering, AI, and data organizations from zero, defining the technology strategy that took an AI-powered ad optimization platform for paid search from prototype to a public market listing.

  • Architected and led development of the AI ad optimization and automation products, including a real-time ML bidding algorithm that became the company's core product differentiator and primary revenue driver, and that drove the revenue growth behind BrightBid's listing on Nasdaq First North.
  • Took the company through a reverse IPO via merger with Speqta (SPEQT), completed in July 2023, leading the engineering, security, and compliance work required for public market readiness and gaining board-level M&A experience within Nasdaq-listed governance and reporting obligations.
  • Built and led a global product and engineering organization of engineering managers, software engineers, data scientists, product managers, and designers across Stockholm, London, Oslo, Copenhagen, and Manila.
  • Established engineering and delivery practices, including CI/CD, design and code review, architectural standards, on-call, and cross-functional collaboration models, lifting velocity, quality, and predictability as the team scaled.
  • Hands-on adtech and martech domain experience: campaign optimization across Google Ads and Microsoft Ads, paid search and keyword automation, budget allocation, and ML-driven creative and bid strategies running on real-time data pipelines.
  • Owned the technology budget, workforce planning, and cloud infrastructure across AWS and GCP.

NuvoAir

Apr 2017 – Dec 2021

CTO · Boston, USA / Stockholm, Sweden

Architected NuvoAir's entire technology stack from day one, spanning Bluetooth Low Energy medical devices, mobile and web applications, the cloud platform, and data science systems, and led global technology operations for a digital health platform with FDA-cleared medical devices used by patients and clinicians.

  • Designed and shipped two BLE medical devices (Air Smart, Air Next), three web applications (Consumer, Caregiver, Clinical Trials), and four iOS and Android apps (Air MD, Home, Clinical Trial, Cough), including a WebRTC-based care platform for real-time patient–clinician video consultations.
  • Built NuvoAir Aos, an add-on sensor for asthma and COPD inhalers, certified as a Class I medical device in Europe. It tracks maintenance-inhaler adherence, reliever use, and inhalation technique, gives patients instant light feedback, and feeds the NuvoAir Home app, the clinician portal, and the decentralized clinical trials platform.
  • Owned FDA compliance from the product foundation up, building products and organizational processes that met FDA 21 CFR Part 11, IEC 62304, ISO 13485, EU MDR, NHS DTAC, and HIPAA, and operating high-availability, audit-ready, medical-grade systems.
  • Hired, built, and led the engineering and data science team, scaling it from one engineer to 30+ engineering managers, software engineers, and data scientists across three offices in the US and Europe.
  • First AI project: designed and shipped the cough detection ML model behind NuvoAir Cough (iOS, 2021), which monitors nighttime coughing on the patient's phone, extending the platform into passive, AI-driven patient monitoring for asthma, COPD, and other respiratory conditions.
  • Recognized as Best Health Tech Startup by the Global Startup Awards 2019 for innovation in digital respiratory health.

Pingdom

Jun 2015 – Mar 2017
